We would like to inform our clients, users and the general public about the recent events related to the seizure of illicit goods in a container in the Dominican Republic last Friday, December 6. We hereby inform that the container in question was received loaded at the Puerto Barrios Railway Terminal, remained intact during its stay at this Terminal, and was successfully exported.
In Puerto Barrios, the container was processed safely, complying with all national and international port security and protection schemes, using the latest technology in cargo protection at the Terminal. Likewise, with the supervision and management of the competent Guatemalan authorities in the matter, who in the X-ray analysis determined its content as safe cargo without any anomaly, therefore, the equipment continued with its boarding process. After that, the vessel continued its route to Puerto Cortés, Honduras, where after its operation it headed towards Puerto Caucedo, Dominican Republic, and after a transshipment process, the container was inspected, detecting the presence of illicit substances. The final destination of the container in question was Europe.
We would like to emphasize that the container in question did not suffer any contamination nor was it subject to the perpetration of any illicit act within Guatemalan territory. This statement is confirmed by both the competent national and international authorities in the matter, as well as by highly reliable means of control.
In this sense, Terminal Ferroviaria Puerto Barrios, as part of the Guatemalan port system, remains firm in the commitment made by the country to strictly comply with the protection measures for cargo and port facilities.
